The group achieved meaningful success with hits such as “Rock Me,” “The angel Song,” “House of Broken Love,” and “Once Bitten, Twice Shy,” the latter penned by former Mott the Hoople frontman Ian Hunter.
Despite the rise of grunge music in the 1990s, Great white managed to maintain their presence on the Rock charts with tracks like “Call It Rock & Roll,” “Sail Away,” and “Rollin’ Stoned.”
“We took the changes in music style in stride,” Kendall reflected in an interview with MisplacedStraws. “Rather of feeling defeated, we continued to do what we loved.”
“We adapted to playing smaller venues, but the energy from our fans remained strong, and we filled those spaces night after night, striving to create the best music possible.”

After Great White disbanded in 2001, Kendall and lead vocalist Jack Russell, another founding member, formed Jack Russell’s Great white. The band faced a tragic incident in 2003 when a pyrotechnics mishap during a performance at The Station in Rhode Island resulted in a devastating fire, claiming 100 lives, including their guitarist Ty Longley.
Great White reunited in 2006 with Kendall, Russell, and other original members. Tragically, Russell passed away in 2024, shortly after announcing his retirement due to Lewy body dementia.
