The build quality of the test model presents a mixed experience. The carved mahogany body features uneven bridge posts, which can leave some threads exposed, notably noticeable on the bass side. this flaw can be distracting once identified.
Additionally,the neck joint isn’t the tightest I’ve encountered,with visible gaps between the neck and body,especially on the bass side. the cutaway on the treble side also isn’t perfectly flush with the neck, resulting in a slight bump that can be felt during play.
The nut is somewhat bulky and doesn’t sit flush with the fretboard, leading to some overhang that can complicate fretting lower chords. The Indian laurel fretboard appears dry and could benefit from a treatment of lemon oil or a more intensive conditioner to restore its vitality.
Despite these issues, they don’t significantly detract from the overall character of the guitar, and many can be remedied by skilled hands. On a positive note, the GraphTech NuBone nut is a valuable addition, and the adjustable wrap-around bridge is excellent for fine-tuning intonation.
There are also many commendable aspects. The binding is executed well, albeit simply, which is extraordinary for a guitar in this price range. The control knobs are robust and responsive, and the guitar is lightweight, making it agreeable for extended play. This is particularly beneficial for younger players or those seeking a more manageable single-cut option.

The neck was a pleasant surprise; I anticipated a more robust profile, but Gretsch opted for a tapered design suitable for beginners and first-time players. The “Fast C” neck is slim and feels smooth in the fretting hand,with gentle shoulders that enhance playability. While it may not be my favorite neck shape, its advantages are clear.

Cleans were a bit of a challenge for me.
Having recently embraced the concept of single-pickup guitars,I was genuinely eager to explore the capabilities of this model,featuring the newly designed HotWire High Output Ceramic Humbucker.However, with a single pickup, the stakes are high; if it doesn’t deliver, there’s no alternative to mask its shortcomings.
So, does the HotWire meet expectations? It has a slightly nasal quality that I didn’t anticipate, and it may lack some depth, but there’s definitely room for achieving a solid tone, especially when adjusting the volume and tone controls.
In particular,the clean tones presented some challenges for me. While there’s a commendable level of clarity and definition, it doesn’t quite inspire as a stock sound. However, rolling back the tone can warm it up and add some fullness, making it a decent starting point.
