They had this tall,striking guitarist [Jay Reynolds] who played a Gibson Flying V and seemed heavily influenced by Michael Schenker.”

“I expressed my desire for him to join Megadeth,” he recalled. “he was thrilled at the prospect. Though, while we were in the studio recording our third album, so Far, So Good… So What?, I said, ‘Alright, it’s time for your solos.’”
“He replied, ‘I’m going to call my guitar teacher to handle the solos and then teach me how to play them.’ I thought, ‘No way-you must be joking.’ But he was serious.”

This was a surprising move; it’s hard to imagine Metallica allowing Kirk Hammett to bring in Joe Satriani to record his solos for Ride the lightning. Ultimately, this decision cost Reynolds his place in the band.
“I went along with it,” Mustaine explained. “Jeff [Young, his teacher] showed up, and as I mentioned, he was an extraordinary guitarist. He had a distinctive style, much like Chris, and we began working on the album.”
