Alex Van Halen Reveals Exciting Updates on the Nearly Complete Van Halen Album
Alex Van Halen has recently provided intriguing insights into the long-awaited Van Halen album he has been collaborating on with Steve Lukather. It turns out that the project is much closer to completion than fans might have anticipated.
According to Alex, the album is essentially finished and was completed before Eddie’s passing in 2020. The only element missing was a lead vocalist to bring the new tracks to life.
Last year, Alex sparked significant excitement when he announced that a new Van Halen album was in progress. Initially, Lukather confirmed his involvement, but later stated, “I will not ever play a guitar note on a VH song ever!”
Lukather clarified that his role was to sift through a vast collection of unfinished recordings that Alex and Eddie had created, which had never been released.
Now, Alex has clarified that a full Van Halen album was nearly complete before Eddie’s untimely death, featuring drums, bass, and, most importantly, Eddie’s iconic guitar work.
When asked about the possibility of incorporating Eddie’s previous recordings into this new album, Alex explained to KazaGastão (via Blabbermouth), “These recordings were intended for the next Van Halen album, but the project was halted due to Ed’s passing.”
“The drums, guitar, and bass have all been recorded,” he continued. ”What we still need is a vocalist, along with those subtle touches we refer to as the ‘glue’ or ‘spackle.’”
Van Halen’s recordings also include contributions from Wolfgang Van halen on bass. Alex mentioned that he and Lukather had even approached Paul Rodgers to lend his voice to the project: “It was tough for him to say,’No,I can’t. Count me out.’ I respect that.”
Regarding Lukather’s role, Alex emphasized that he was brought in to help fill in the gaps and provide the necessary “connective tissue” to the music. “Luke can play anything,” Alex remarked. “I visited Steve’s house multiple times, and after playing a piece of music, he would say, ‘Yeah, I got it. That’s it. that’s all we need.’ He knows exactly where to place the solos and how to structure the songs.”
“I feel fortunate to have Steve Lukather,a close friend of Ed’s,working with me on this record. It’s essential that we maintain the quality and standard we expect, rather than just releasing something for the sake of it,” he added.
As for when this highly anticipated album will be released, that remains uncertain.there has been no official declaration regarding the project, and details have emerged solely from Alex’s interviews. However, one thing is clear: the new Van Halen album is very much a reality and is on its way.
In 2024, Alex Van Halen shared Unfinished, the last song he co-wrote with his brother, further highlighting the enduring legacy of their musical partnership.
