Sting’s Wealthy Legacy: Why He Chooses Not to Leave His $245 Million Fortune to His Children
With a staggering net worth of approximately $245 million, music icon Sting has made it clear that his children should not anticipate inheriting his fortune.
The legendary frontman of The Police believes that bequeathing vast sums of money can frequently enough lead to detrimental effects on one’s children.
In a candid conversation with journalist Mark phillips on CBS Sunday Morning, Sting remarked, “I think the worst thing you can do to a kid is to say, ‘You don’t have to work.’ That’s a form of abuse that I hope I’m never guilty of.”

Sting, who rose to fame alongside Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland, wants his six children to forge their own paths and careers, independent of his financial success.
The Police’s five studio albums have collectively sold over 75 million copies globally, contributing to sting’s remarkable wealth. Though, he emphasizes that self-sufficiency is far more valuable than any inheritance.
“All of my kids have been blessed with an amazing work ethic, whether it’s in their DNA or because I’ve instilled in them, ‘I’m funding your education. You have shoes on your feet. Now go to work!’” he explained.
“There’s a kindness and trust in them that they will find their own way,” Sting continued. “They’re resilient, my kids.”
when asked if his children ever express dissatisfaction with his stance, he humorously replied, “No – not to my face, they don’t.”
Sting first articulated his views on inheritance in a 2014 interview with The Daily Mail.
“I certainly don’t want to leave them trust funds that become burdens,” he stated. “They need to earn their way. My children understand this and seldom ask me for anything, wich I truly respect.”
“Of course,if they were in dire straits,I would assist them,” he added. “But I’ve never realy had to do that. They possess the work ethic that drives them to succeed on their own.”
At 74, Sting has two children from his first marriage to actress Frances Tomelty - Joe, 49, and Fuchsia, 44 – and four children with producer Trudie Styler: Mickey, 42; Jake, 40; Eliot, 35; and Giacomo, 30.

Sting is not alone in his ideology; fellow rock star Dave grohl has also expressed that his daughter, Violet, is building her music career independently.
Additionally, the actual value of Sting’s estate may be influenced by an ongoing dispute over royalties involving his former bandmates, Summers and Copeland, who claim they are owed approximately $2 million for their contributions to Sting’s songwriting.
Summers has been particularly vocal about the band’s iconic track, “Every Breath You Take,” stating that it was nearly excluded from their 1983 album Synchronicity until he crafted the unforgettable guitar riff that became its signature sound.
