Furch’s Red Series: the $7,000 Acoustic Guitar That Redefines Excellence
During our recent visit to Furch’s state-of-the-art guitar manufacturing facility located near Brno, Czech republic, we were captivated by the brand’s innovative and forward-thinking philosophy.
When we inquired about the emphasis on traditional craftsmanship, CEO Petr furch greeted us with a smile and a shake of his head. While each Furch guitar is crafted with a notable amount of artisan skill, Petr advocates for the use of advanced technology, particularly robots, to execute lutherie tasks that demand unparalleled precision and uniformity, such as the creation of their unique neck joints.
This perspective challenges the notion that acoustic guitar making is a stagnant field bound by tradition. Instead, Petr envisions it as a dynamic journey toward enhanced playability and superior tonal quality.
The Pinnacle of Craftsmanship: The Red Series
The essence of this innovative spirit is most vividly showcased in the red Series guitars. Furch categorizes its offerings by color, with Red representing the pinnacle of quality outside of their custom-order line.
The Deluxe variant within this series is designed to stand out, and it certainly lives up to that promise.
Innovative Features: The Booster Soundport
Among the many distinctive features of Furch guitars, the latest addition to this model is the booster Soundport, strategically placed on the shoulder of the upper bout. While soundports are not a novel concept, Furch has ingeniously crafted theirs into a subtle array of slots, avoiding the typical large opening found in many guitars.
Exceptional Materials and Craftsmanship
At its core, the guitar features a body constructed from Malaysian blackwood, reminiscent of the luxurious tones of rosewood, while the soundboard is crafted from Alpine spruce.
Furch meticulously analyzes and voices each soundboard to ensure optimal resonance-a meticulous process thay apply even to their more affordable models. however, the Red Series takes it a step further by also tuning the back, a hallmark of its premium status.
Furch’s commitment to detail is evident in the Full-Pore High-Gloss finish lacquer, developed in-house to enhance volume and resonance.
The ergonomically designed armrest on the top edge of the guitar is complemented by a unique belly cut on the back, a dual ergonomic feature that Furch has named the Bevel Duo.
In terms of aesthetics, the guitar boasts koa binding and a soundhole rosette adorned with abalone inlay, along with a decorative koa wedge at the tail end. The bridge, fingerboard, and headstock face are crafted from figured ziricote, culminating in a truly elegant and feature-rich instrument.
