## Soundgarden’s surviving members reunite for charity concert

Soundgarden’s remaining members reunited for the first time since 2021 at a recent benefit concert in Seattle. Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, and Ben Shepherd presented a six-song set at the 13th annual SMooCH concert to support Seattle Children’s Hospital’s uncompensated care fund, with Seattle-based singer-songwriter Shaina Shepherd replacing the late Chris Cornell.

### Setlist and musical equipment of the reunion

Shaina Shepherd fronted the band with a set almost exclusively made up of Soundgarden songs, with the addition of a cover of the MC5’s “Kick Out The Jams.” Guns N’ Roses star Duff McKagan provided support on “Kickstand” and the closing song. The set also featured the songs “Outshined,” “Flower,” and “Beyond the Wheel.”

Kim Thayil, who received his signature Guild guitars late last year, played a unique Guild electric guitar featuring an offset Surfliner body and Gibson-esque headstock. He also showcased his go-to SG-alike Guild Polara guitars.

### Performing under the moniker Nudedragons

The band performed under the moniker Nudedragons, an anagram of Soundgarden. This was the first time Nudedragons had been used in a concert in 14 years, after debuting the name for a surprise set in 2010.

This isn’t the first time Thayil, Shepherd, and Cameron have reunited in 2021. They previously performed with Brandi Carlile.

### What Thayil has been up to

Since Soundgarden disbanded, Thayil formed 3rd Secret, a supergroup also featuring Matt Cameron and Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic. He also provided a guitar solo on Dale Crover’s solo track “I Quit.”

### The future of Soundgarden’s music

There is speculation that Chris Cornell’s final Soundgarden recordings will be released after Cornell’s estate and the band’s surviving members resolved their long-running lawsuit last year. However, the future of the band beyond that is uncertain.
