In her final days, Parton addressed rumors regarding her health. In an interview with People, published on the same day she was hospitalized, she reassured her fans that her fatigue stemmed from kidney stones and caring for her husband, Carl Dean, who passed away in March 2025.
Fans had been increasingly concerned about Parton’s well-being after she postponed a Las Vegas residency last year due to undisclosed health issues that necessitated her staying closer to her Nashville home. Ultimately, the residency was canceled in May, with Parton citing kidney stones and digestive complications as the reasons.
Just over a week ago, she had to cancel a planned appearance at her dollywood amusement park.Instead, visitors were shown a video message in which she explained her struggles with dizziness and dehydration, advising her doctors had recommended against travel.
In her last known interview with People, she expressed her determination to continue her work, including the upcoming Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville, which will honor her remarkable journey and contributions to music.
“Even though I’m still healing, I’m still working! You know me - as I’ve often saeid – I’ve dreamed myself into a corner, and I still have so many things I want to achieve, so I’m gonna keep on working as long as I can to see everything come to life,” she stated.
Tributes have poured in throughout the day, with Tennessee Governor Bill Lee ordering flags across the state to be lowered “in memory of Dolly Parton, Tennessee’s beloved daughter.”
