Welcome to the latest installment from the Drummer’s Review Live Room, where we delve into a curated selection of drumheads from Attack Drumheads.
This review was filmed in January 2025 (details on recording and equipment can be found below).
Attack Drumheads emphasizes their philosophy: “Our approach is straightforward yet effective. We utilize premium materials, innovative designs, and meticulous craftsmanship to achieve exceptional sound quality. A key feature of our drumheads is the pressure-fitted steel hoop, which ensures the head remains securely in place, even under intense playing conditions. This unique design not only stabilizes the head but also adds extra mass, enhancing sustain and tonal clarity.”

The direct microphone sound was captured without any EQ adjustments, either pre or post-recording, from the Neve 5052 Pre-Amps EQ section.
Basic EQ settings were applied using the EQ section of the Neve 5052 mic pre-amps, with no post-recording EQ or processing.
“The microphone setup was meticulously arranged, with overheads and room mics positioned to align with the center of the snare drum, ensuring phase coherence in stereo pairs. The AEA R88 MK2 mics, being stereo, posed no phase issues, while the front center room mic and center overhead were aligned for a consistent stereo image. Phase correction was applied to the kick and snare mics as needed. Hi-pass filters were utilized on the hi-hat, ride, and overhead mics. The Electrovoice PL80 mics on the snare provide a flat portrayal of the drum sound. our goal was to capture an authentic representation of the drums in the live room, with the studio acoustics treated to enhance neutrality.”
