Warren haynes Unveils His Signature P-90 Les Paul: A Game-Changer for Guitarists
After much anticipation, Warren Haynes has officially launched his highly awaited P-90 Les Paul signature guitar, marking a significant moment for fans and guitar enthusiasts alike.
A Bold Shift in Sound
In November 2024, the renowned guitarist from Gov’t Mule and former member of the Allman Brothers Band hinted at not one, but two new Gibson guitars in advancement. What caught many off guard was the decision to equip these models with P-90 pickups rather of the traditional humbuckers.
This unexpected choice reflects Haynes’ growing passion for P-90s, as he expressed his intent to explore this pickup style more deeply, stating, “I am about to delve into the P-90 world pretty hard.”
Official Reveal at NAMM
The guitar made its frist appearance at this year’s NAMM show, and now it has been officially released, showcasing a stunning design that combines classic aesthetics with modern functionality.
While the guitar’s striking ’60s Cherry finish is visually captivating, it’s the craftsmanship that truly stands out. The instrument features a maple cap on a mahogany body, complete with elegant binding, and a robust ’50s Vintage profile mahogany neck. The 22-fret rosewood fingerboard is adorned with acrylic trapezoid inlays, enhancing its vintage appeal.
Minimalist Design with Maximum Impact
One of the most intriguing aspects of this Les Paul is its understated design. The absence of Haynes’ signature or any personal markings gives it a sleek, professional look, reminiscent of Gibson’s high-end production models.
Innovative Pickup Configuration
However, it’s the unique choice of pickups that sets this guitar apart. The dual P-90 DCs deliver a hum-free experience while maintaining the authentic P-90 sound. Additionally, both pickups are wired to a 15dB boost, conveniently activated via a mini toggle switch located between the control knobs, providing players with enhanced tonal versatility.
Haynes’ Personal Touch
Warren Haynes shared his excitement about the collaboration with Gibson, stating, “I’ve always been a Gibson guy – I got hooked on that sound as a teenager and have been playing them ever as. I’m honored to be partnering with Gibson to release my signature Les Paul standard.”
He further expressed his enthusiasm for the P-90s, saying, “Being traditionally a humbucker guy, I’m really loving the hum-free P-90s. It’s a really cool tonal change, and the boost offers even more tonal options. I’m really enjoying playing this guitar on stage and looking forward to using it in the studio.”
Haynes concluded, “I’m equally psyched that other guitar players will now have the opportunity to own and play one as well.”
