Interestingly, despite being the guitar Low would choose to save from flames, it was initially found with burn marks on its body. “it had been in a fire, so the body was a bit warped, but I strung it up, set it up, and instantly fell in love with it,” low explained.
“I offered to buy it from him since he wasn’t using it; I paid £47 (approximately $59 at that time) and told him that if he ever wanted it back, he could reclaim it for the same price,” Low reminisced. Adjusted for inflation, that’s roughly £550 ($713 USD) today.

Identifying vintage Gibson archtops can be quite challenging, but it is believed that this particular model is an L-37, contrary to the L-40 mentioned in the video.
Low has previously discussed the restoration of this guitar with Guitarist. “I had a guy named Colin Mackey do some work on it to bring it to its current state. Now it’s playable and aligns perfectly with my style as a guitarist. The first song I composed on it was Wide Eyed and Legless,” he noted, referencing his hit from 1975 that reached #6 on the UK charts.
This archtop is just one gem in a collection that also features a Teisco guitar that Eric Clapton once declined to let Low play on stage. Interestingly,Andy also confessed that he had never heard of Roger Waters when they first crossed paths.
