Mick Gordon to Unleash the Iconic Doom Soundtrack Live at RADAR Festival 2027
Renowned Australian composer Mick Gordon is set to take the stage for the first time ever, performing his groundbreaking soundtrack for the Doom video game at the UK’s RADAR Festival in 2027.
For countless metal guitar enthusiasts who grew up immersed in the intense atmosphere of first-person shooters, this event is akin to discovering a legendary artifact and unveiling its hidden mysteries, revealing the secrets behind his unique sound that blends Meshuggah-like complexity with a cosmic edge.
Joining Gordon will be a full ensemble, including a live band and an orchestra, ensuring that the performance will be nothing short of spectacular. And of course, he will bring along his signature doom Machine to amplify the experience.
“This isn’t just a DJ performance or a cover band,” emphasizes RADAR Festival. “This is the original composer presenting the authentic score – the riffs delivered at a volume that can truly capture the essence of the music.”
In the weeks following Gordon’s performance, we anticipate a surge in sales of Schecter Damien 9-string guitars in the greater Manchester area, although it’s worth noting that instruments like the Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci JP7 and Mayones 8-string guitars also played pivotal roles in crafting the Doom soundtrack.
Gordon’s work on the Doom soundtrack is considered a cornerstone of modern progressive metal. It’s raw, aggressive, and rhythmically daring, yet it evokes a haunting atmosphere that resonates deeply with listeners.

While Gordon may not don a powdered wig or a lavish velvet coat,he possesses a mastery over his sound akin to that of classical composers,with an electric guitar tone that transcends the ordinary,meticulously crafted through layers of compression (the Origin Effects Cali76-TX was a key tool in the creation of the Doom sound).
Gordon shared with Origin Effects that he views “guitars as a flavor rather than a genre.” In his quest for innovation, he often had to deconstruct traditional tones to rebuild them for the world of Doom.
“Imagine combining furious 7, 8, and 9-string guitars with vintage Soviet synthesizers and drums that sound like they’ve been punched,” he explained to Bethesda. “Then, add in some fiery valve distortion, underpowered transistors, dusty old reel-to-reel tape machines, and earth-shaking sub-woofers. mix it all together, hand the player a shotgun, and let the chaos commence!”
Earlier this year, Gordon revealed many of his production secrets when he sold the Fractal Axe-Fx unit he used for the Doom soundtrack, which also contained presets from his work on Wolfenstein, Prey, and LawBreakers.
