“Jimi was purchasing his weed from Shep gordon, a young guy from New York who was selling it to various people at the Landmark Hotel,” Cooper explained. At that time,gordon was not especially notable,and Cooper noted that Hendrix viewed him as a potential target for police scrutiny.
“Jimi warned him, ’You know, they’re going to bust you, man. You’re young, you’ve got cash, and you lack a legitimate job,’” Cooper recalled.

Hendrix then suggested, “I know a band that needs a manager. You should consider managing them.” This led to a memorable introduction. “When I opened the door, I thought there was a smoke machine inside! I walked in, and there was Jimi, Jim Morrison, and janis Joplin, all enjoying a smoke session,” Cooper shared.
