This auction is being organized by Gardiner houlgate, a reputable auction house known for handling high-profile sales, including Mark Knopfler’s cherished 12-string guitar and Peter Green’s Fender Duo-Sonic.
Crafted in 1971, this modified Fender bass was utilized by Horace Panter to capture the song’s haunting, politically charged essence during a time of economic turmoil in Britain.It also features prominently in the accompanying music video.
Like many seasoned musicians parting with their instruments, Panter hopes to see this bass played rather than left to gather dust.

Panter acquired the bass from a Kettering guitar shop in 1981, where it had already undergone modifications, including a now-replaced Metallic blue finish, a brass bridge and nut, DiMarzio pickups, and a slimmed-down neck for enhanced playability akin to a Fender Jazz bass.

In subsequent years, Panter made further enhancements to the bass, adding a brass pickguard and matching knobs, and repainting it in a striking Power Blue finish.
