Renowned six-time Emmy-winning composer Bear McCreary is set to revolutionize the music scene with his upcoming solo album, blending the raw power of guitars with orchestral elements. This aspiring project features contributions from iconic guitarists Slash, Tim Henson, Guthrie govan, and Steve Vai, promising a sonic experience like no other.
From film Scores to Rock Anthems
McCreary is no stranger to monumental projects, having composed scores for blockbuster films such as Godzilla: King of the Monsters, The Cloverfield Paradox, and Paws of fury.Following his collaboration with Serj Tankian on the hard rock album The Singularity, he is now pushing the boundaries even further with its sequel, The Singularity: Ekleipsis.
A Concept Album with Depth
This new record serves as a continuation of its predecessor, delving into profound themes of disillusionment and resilience amidst adversity.The lead single, Cool Kids, showcases the talents of guns N’ Roses legends Slash and Duff McKagan, alongside Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and vocalist Brendan McCreary, creating a powerhouse collaboration.
The Birth of “Cool Kids”
“Cool Kids came to life when Duff McKagan shared a voice memo of a riff he was experimenting with,” McCreary recalls. “I was promptly captivated by the riff’s energy! The following week, we gathered in the studio with my brother Brendan and Chad Smith to craft the song together.”
“When Slash returned to town, he infused his signature guitar flair, and just like that, the track was complete,” he adds. “The song celebrates individuality, and while the title might suggest or else, it’s a nod to the incredible experience of collaborating with some of rock’s most talented figures.”
Dynamic Collaborations and Heavy Sounds
Slash’s fiery blues-infused guitar work complements McCreary’s rich orchestral arrangements, creating a captivating musical dialog. Another track, Black Box, released concurrently, features powerful guitar riffs reminiscent of Gojira’s Joe Duplantier, delivering an anthemic and gritty sound.
Star-Studded Lineup
In addition to the aforementioned artists, the album also features contributions from guitar virtuosos Steve Vai and Tim Henson on the track Blueshift. Henson further collaborates with Claudio Sanchez from Coheed & Cambria on the track Sweet Misery.
