Collaborative Dynamics in the Band
“Tommy, did you suggest Anna to Alice as a potential replacement for Nita?”
Henriksen: Alice was on the lookout for a guitarist, and I asked, “Do you want a girl or a guy? I have both options.” The first thing I did was send Anna’s videos to Ryan because I wanted him to hear her. After listening, Ryan said, “I see it. I hear it.” That was all it took. Alice was on board to, and soon we were bringing her to Vegas to familiarize her with the show.
Understanding the Musical Essence
Anna, can you describe the unique quality that Tommy mentioned? Is it something innate or learned?
Cara: I learned a lot from my dad when I started playing. We used to jam together, but for him, it was more of a hobby. He always emphasized vibrato and rhythm, saying, “Master that before diving into fast shredding.” I also drew inspiration from guitarists like Tony Iommi, Eddie Van Halen, and Gary Moore, who all have a strong sense of feel and tone.
Roxie: It’s fascinating that I’m 60 and she’s 22, yet we share the same influences. That might explain her playing style-she embodies those classic influences.
Roles and Responsibilities in the band
What’s the division of guitar responsibilities like now compared to when Nita was in the band?
Roxie: Alice loves lead guitar, so there are usually at least two, if not three, solos per song.Everyone gets to showcase their skills. [Laughs]
Most of the time,I prefer playing rhythm. I can do a solo, but I’m more of a Malcolm Young type.
Tommy Henriksen
Roxie: The catalog often dictates who will take the lead based on the genre. If it’s an ’80s Kane Roberts track, Anna will handle that. For classic rock, Tommy takes the lead. I float around depending on the song’s style. We aim to maintain the spirit of the original tracks.
Henriksen: I usually lean towards rhythm. I can do solos, but I have a few licks that I rearrange for variety.
Roxie: I’ve told Tommy many times that he’s the most improved guitarist I’ve ever played with in this band. He was primarily a bassist, but he took guitar seriously when he joined and has progressed every year.
Cara: it’s all about the trio dynamic; each of us has our strengths.During rehearsals,we create some really cool harmonies and arrangements.
Favorite Alice Cooper Tracks to Play
What’s your favorite Alice Cooper song to perform on guitar?
Henriksen: I love Caught in a Dream for its rhythm. It’s more complex than it seems. Also, Cold machines is exciting because we’ve never played it live before. It has that industrial metal vibe and is in drop D tuning.
Cara: I enjoy playing Feed My Frankenstein. The rhythm and the dual solos Ryan and I perform are a blast. Poison is another favorite; I love the harmony solos.
Roxie: The challenging songs are the most enjoyable. We’re working on Chasing Rainbows, which dates back to the ’40s[Ednote:HarryCarroll’s[Ednote:HarryCarroll’s[Ednote:HarryCarroll’s[Ednote:HarryCarroll’sI’m Always chasing Rainbows was first published in 1917], but Alice covered it on his 1976 album Goes to Hell. There’s piano in that song, and one of the most fun things I’ve done is transpose it for our live band.

Current Gear and Equipment
What gear are you currently using?
Henriksen: I primarily play B.C. Rich guitars. one day, I was inspired by Joe Perry, who has the coolest guitars, and I remembered seeing him with a B.C. Rich on Live! bootleg. that’s when I decided to get one for myself.
I acquired a Bich and a Mockingbird from a local guy, paying five grand for both. They were from the original owner, who bought them in 1980. After that, I committed to playing B.C.rich exclusively and even found an ’80s Warlock. I also utilize the built-in effects we have during performances.
I grew up on Gibsons, and I’ve always tried to represent those classic, iconic shapes.
Ryan Roxie
Roxie: I’ve always been a Gibson fan and have tried to embody those classic shapes. it’s not just about the tones; I’ll use a Flying V for ’80s tracks, an Explorer for industrial songs, and a Les Paul for ’70s classics.
However, I’m no longer working with Gibson as a clinician, so now I have the freedom to play whatever I want. It feels like being a kid in a candy store! Recently, I’ve been drawn to Rock N Roll Relics, Billy Rowe’s boutique company, which offers some fantastic guitar shapes.
Additionally, I have a custom effect coming out with Citadel called the Pin Sound. It’s a cool Van Halen-style boost, similar to a micro amp with a noise gate.Expect it to be released by the end of the year. For acoustic performances, Alvarez has been incredibly supportive, and their guitars sound amazing.

Cara: We all use Kemper profiling amps during live shows. I have to credit Tommy for the amazing tones we achieve. For guitars, I’m currently using Ibanez’s X Series, and I’m grateful for their support.
anna Cara: The New Guitar Force in Alice Cooper’s Band
Anna Cara, a rising star in the music world, has embraced her role in the Alice Cooper Band with enthusiasm. Known for her incredible talent, she has made a name for herself by playing the Ibanez X Series, which she describes as feeling fantastic. “Tommy sent me a picture of this guitar, and it resonated with my nickname, Blackthorn. It looks like a thorn, so it was a perfect match,” she shares.
In addition to her Ibanez, Anna also plays a classic Les Paul, a nod to her roots in Gibson guitars. “I have a special Les Paul that belongs to Alice’s son, Dash Cooper. He’s graciously letting me use it for this tour, and it’s been a joy to experience that iconic sound,” she adds.

Balancing Individuality and Collective Harmony
What’s the secret to harmonizing in a three-guitar setup?
Roxie: It’s quite straightforward in this band. We all recognize who the star is, and it’s not me, Tommy, or Anna. [laughs] This awareness keeps us grounded. we’re fortunate to have a leader who, despite the band being named after him, encourages everyone to shine and seize their moments. Alice is secure in his legendary status, which helps us manage our own egos.
Henriksen: the essence lies in rhythm. It’s all about timing and feel. When we sync up, it creates a powerful wall of sound. Each of us plays different parts on the neck, which adds to the excitement.
Cara: The music we play is timeless, spanning various genres. I don’t limit myself to one style; my heart lies in the sounds of the ’70s and ’80s. With the guitar work, I immerse myself in the vibe that Ryan and Tommy have described. That style of playing resonates deeply with me.

Embracing the Journey
For you, Anna, joining Alice Cooper signifies a major recognition in your career. What message do you want to convey to the guitar community?
Cara: One of the most encouraging comments I received was from someone who said, “It’s inspiring to see someone your age up there doing it.” It’s a reminder that hard work pays off. I consistently posted on social media because I wanted to be noticed. I could have easily given up and not shared that blues cover that Tommy eventually saw.
If I had chosen to stay silent that day, it could have changed everything. The key is to keep pushing forward. Work hard and pursue your passion. Many people focus solely on learning the next lick or scale, but it’s essential to enjoy the music. For me, the most important thing is to relish playing every single day.
