Rising Metal Titans: Heriot’s debbie Gough and erhan Alman Set to Conquer North America
British metal band Heriot has been making waves in the music scene, achieving significant milestones in recent years. After sharing stages with renowned acts like Lamb of God and Zeal & Ardor,and performing at iconic festivals such as download and Wacken,they have secured a Jackson endorsement. Their debut album,Devoured by the Mouth of Hell,released in 2024,has been met with critical acclaim for its ferocity and technical prowess.
Now, the band is gearing up for their inaugural North American tour alongside Trivium and Jinjer. “This is the most significant opportunity we’ve ever encountered,” shares Erhan Alman, the band’s founding guitarist.

Gough: “It’s incredibly thrilling. I grew up watching their music videos, and my frist band even covered Dying In Your Arms.This feels like a full-circle moment. It’s both intimidating and exhilarating, and we recognize the magnitude of this opportunity.”
Gear Talk: What’s in Their Rig?
Gough: “I’m bringing my Jackson SL3 and the SL2DX, which is the shining yellow model. Both guitars are equipped with Floyd Rose tremolos. For the past couple of years, we’ve been using Quad Cortexes for our sound, moving away from traditional pedalboards to capture our tones more effectively, especially while touring.”
Alman: “On our album, we aimed for a raw, aggressive sound reminiscent of a Boss HM-2 pedal cranked to the max. I’m using a clone pedal, the oneder Effects HW-2, which has its own EQ settings. It’s versatile enough for both recording and touring.”
“For guitars, I have an SL2 with a tread plate pickguard, but my go-to is now the Jackson Pro Series Lee Malia LM-87. I used to rely solely on EMGs, but the pickups in this guitar offer incredible versatility, especially as our music evolves.”
Collaborative Dynamics: A Unique Guitar Partnership
Alman: “We complement each other perfectly. I focus on maintaining the rhythm while Debbie excels at delivering the solos. Her talent allows us to explore solos in various contexts, knowing she can handle any challenge. We each have our moments to shine, with my contributions often being the eerie, atmospheric parts.”
Gough: “The Virtuoso campaign was surreal. I felt both out of place and welcomed. Being surrounded by such talented guitarists was overwhelming, but marty Friedman was incredibly supportive, which helped ease my nerves.”

Gough: “Recording with Josh was a unique experience. He was attentive, balancing between giving me space and keeping a close eye on my technique.His focus on my right hand during takes pushed me to deliver my best.”
Alman: “If it had been anyone else, we might have struggled, but Josh brought out the best in us. We owe a lot of our performance on this record to his guidance.”
Defining ‘Heavy’: A Broader Perspective
Gough: “I used to be quite the gatekeeper when it came to metal, but as I’ve matured, I’ve come to realize that ‘heavy’ is more about the emotional weight of the music rather than just loud guitars and aggressive vocals. I’m currently into hyperpop,which I consider heavy due to its intense emotional drive. If we had released Opaline back in 2015, I wouldn’t have classified it as heavy.”
