The organizers behind The UK Drum Show and the upcoming The Europe Drum Show (launching in 2025), along with the unbiased online review site Drummer’s Review, are delighted to announce the addition of former BBC presenter Ollie Winiberg-Bettell to their team, starting January 1, 2025.
After introducing Ollie as the Main Stage host at The UK Drum Show 2023,it became evident to attendees and exhibitors alike that his enthusiasm for drumming is truly contagious. Neil Golding, the event organizer and publisher, remarked, “Ollie’s extensive experience in presenting, combined with his vibrant energy, makes him a perfect fit for our team. He will continue as the Main Stage host for both the UK and Europe Drum Shows, while also spearheading the expansion of our podcast initiatives and leading artist interviews for Drummer’s Review.”
Ollie expressed his excitement about joining the team, stating, “I am overjoyed to be part of this family-run association and can’t wait to dive into my new role next year. This chance feels like one of the most thrilling adventures I’ve ever embarked on. I look forward to traveling and engaging with drummers,percussionists,and enthusiasts globally to create amazing content for everyone!”
Reflecting on his journey,Ollie shared,“Drumming has been my passion since I was two years old,sitting on my dad’s lap while he managed the pedals and I handled the sticks. That moment ignited an obsession that has stayed with me throughout my life.”
With 13 years of experience at BBC Radio,including shows on Radio One and BBC Music Introducing,Ollie launched his own podcast,“The Heavy Hooks Show,” in 2021. This platform, which champions both signed and unsigned rock and metal bands, has achieved remarkable success, ranking in the top 10% of the most shared podcasts globally on Spotify.
During his time at The UK Drum Show, Ollie forged a strong bond with Neil, Sharon, and the Golding family. In early 2024, thay launched the UK Drum Show Official Podcast, where Ollie interviewed main stage artists ahead of the September 2024 event. “This podcast felt like home to me.I’m a huge drum enthusiast, and conversing with these talented musicians was incredibly natural. Plus, drummers have the best sense of humor!” he added.
Ollie’s musical tastes are diverse, with a particular fondness for progressive rock and complex time signatures. He enjoys bands like Dream Theater, Haken, pink Floyd, Genesis, and Led Zeppelin, and also film scores by Vangelis and John Williams. “Discovering new music is a passion of mine,” he noted.He humorously mentioned that while “This Is Spinal Tap” is his favorite film, he’ll do his best to avoid any gardening mishaps!
Ollie dedicated this declaration to his late father, Michael Bettell, who was an incredible drummer and his lifelong inspiration. “He passed away in 2003, and it feels fitting to honor him with this news,” Ollie shared.
