A New Era for Joe Dart Signature Basses
Last year marked a notable milestone for Dart, who previously had three signature guitars with Ernie Ball Music Man. His partnership with Sterling, the brand’s more budget-friendly line, led to the launch of the dart I bass, which quickly became a fan favourite. This limited-edition model was available for just a month and priced under $400, leading to an immediate sell-out.
completing the Trilogy
In a bid to continue this successful collaboration, Sterling has rejoined forces with Dart to complete a trilogy of signature basses. The revival of the Dart I is accompanied by the introduction of the Dart II and Dart III, each featuring unique body shapes and pickup configurations that cater to diffrent playing styles.
Unbeatable Pricing
One of the most appealing aspects of these new models is their affordability. Both the Dart II and Dart III are priced at $499, representing a staggering savings of over $2,000 compared to their original Ernie Ball counterparts, which were priced at $2,699 and $2,599, respectively.
Distinct Features and Specifications
While the Dart I retains its original specifications, the Dart II and Dart III introduce new features. The Dart II is equipped with two single-coil pickups, while the Dart III boasts a split-coil pickup. Both models maintain the high-quality components expected from Sterling, including soft maple bodies, hard maple necks with 9.5” fingerboards, and five-bolt neck joints.
Body Shapes and Scale Lengths
The Dart II showcases a subtly offset body shape reminiscent of the Ernie Ball Music Man Caprice, whereas the Dart III adheres to the classic contours of the flagship model. The Dart II features a 34” scale length and 21 frets, complemented by two volume controls, while the Dart III has a shorter 30” scale length, 22 frets, and a single volume knob.
Quality and Craftsmanship
Both models are designed with open gear tuners, dual-action truss rods, fixed bridges, and ceramic pickups, ensuring a premium playing experience. Dart emphasizes the exceptional feel and quality of these instruments, stating, “The Joe Dart I, II, and III represent three different sounds and feels, three different eras of bass, and three different shades of my own work as a bassist.”
