Xotic, renowned for its boutique effects pedals and electric guitars, has unveiled the AC Booster V2, an evolution of its celebrated AC Booster. This new iteration aims to provide guitarists wiht an remarkable, amp-like overdrive experience that is both touch-sensitive and versatile.
Since its launch in 2002, the original AC Booster has gained a reputation as a go-to tool for session musicians and professional guitarists. It has found a permanent place on the pedalboards of many acclaimed artists known for their diverse tonal palettes.
Notable musicians such as Tim Pierce, michael Thompson, and J. D. Simo have praised the AC Booster, while legends like Neal Schon, Mike McCready, and Paul Gilbert have incorporated it into their setups. Other prominent users include Reeves Gabrels, Yannis Philippakis from foals, and jazz virtuoso Marcus Miller.
The AC Booster has earned its status due to its rich, tube-like overdrive tones, which are perfect for achieving both crunchy gain and subtle grit. Additionally, it serves as an excellent clean boost when needed.
The latest version, the AC booster V2, introduces a range of enhancements, including a side-mounted external EQ control featuring four dip switches for on-the-fly tone adjustments.
The first switch activates a compression feature, while the second allows users to choose between the classic AC overdrive sound or a modern alternative. The third and fourth switches provide boosts for Lo Mid and Hi Mid frequencies. A new footswitch has also been added to engage a secondary gain stage, alongside the standard bypass switch.
The familiar layout remains intact, featuring controls for Gain, Treble, Volume, and Bass. However, the V2 now includes an additional ‘Boost’ mini knob that functions as a secondary gain control.
Xotic describes this next-generation pedal as a meaningful upgrade to the original AC Booster,enhancing its versatility,dynamic response,and tonal shaping capabilities for guitarists across all genres. The four-pole dip switch on the side allows for more precise tone customization.
