# Neural DSP Co-Founders Open Up on Controversial Nano Cortex Teaser Videos

### The Making of Controversial Nano Cortex Teaser Videos

The co-founders of Neural DSP, Francisco Cresp and Doug Castro, have revealed the story behind the controversial Nano Cortex teaser videos that the company launched in September. The promotional videos, produced by British music producer George Lever and composer and producer James Sanger, featured a cameo by Neural DSP artist Rabea Massaad and are best described as comedic in nature.

### A Light-Hearted Take on Marketing

The videos show a producer embarking on a journey to track down the Nano Cortex unit he was supposed to receive, which he discovers should have been much smaller in size than the Quad Cortex. Doug Castro commented on the nature of the videos, explaining, “We take our work very seriously in terms of how good the products have to be. Our quality standards are very high. But at the same time, us as individuals, we love to have fun and do goofy, silly things sometimes.”

### Lessons Learned From the Backlash

The co-founders reflected on the unexpected backlash received due to the videos. Francisco Cresp admitted, “We were not expecting that amount of hatred and negative comments.” However, Doug Castro pointed out that despite the backlash, the teasers managed to get people talking, asserting that it “was probably the most talked about release this year, right?”

### A New Product Launch

The Nano Cortex, an all-in-one, tiny-yet-powerful amp modeler, IR loader, effects processor, and Capture device, ultimately launched on September 18th as the Quad Cortex’s smaller sibling.

### The Aftermath

Reflecting on the controversial campaign, Cresp said that the experience taught them a lot of lessons about taking risks and planning differently. Castro added that the last thing you want when releasing something you’ve invested time and money in is silence. The videos may have brought about an unexpected outcome, but they ultimately contributed to generating buzz around the launch of the Nano Cortex.
