“I was at Buddy Guy’s Legends club [in Chicago], waiting for Buddy, Stevie, and Clapton to show up,” he reminisces. ”The atmosphere was electric, with musicians buzzing in anticipation. Then, we received the devastating news that they had all gone down. The silence that followed was haunting; it was as if the entire room had collectively held its breath.Eventually, we learned that Buddy and Eric were safe, but the loss of Stevie was overwhelming.”
“It was a tragic moment,” he reflects somberly. “That day will forever be etched in my memory.”
Stevie Ray Vaughan tragically lost his life at the age of 35 in a helicopter accident near East Troy, Wisconsin, on August 27, 1990. Earlier that evening,he and his band,Double Trouble,had performed at the alpine Valley Music Theater,sharing the stage with Buddy Guy,Eric Clapton,Robert cray,and Vaughan’s brother,Jimmie.
