Megadeth Unveils ‘Let There Be Shred’: A Thrilling Tribute to Guitar Mastery
megadeth has just released the third single from their upcoming final studio album, and it’s a nostalgic thrash anthem that pays homage to the electric guitar.
Entitled let There Be Shred, this latest track offers a tantalizing glimpse into what fans can expect from the band’s last record, set to debut in january.
Announced in August, the self-titled album will be accompanied by a worldwide farewell tour, marking the end of Dave Mustaine’s illustrious career with Megadeth, spanning over four decades.
As evidenced by earlier singles like I Don’t Care and Tipping Point, the band is determined to make a grand exit.
A Celebration of Shredding
The excitement surrounding Megadeth and their forthcoming album is palpable, fueled by the electrifying performances of Mustaine’s latest collaborator, Teemu Mäntysaari.
With a title like Let There Be Shred, expectations are high, and Mäntysaari, who makes his studio debut with Megadeth after taking over from Kiko loureiro, certainly delivers. His guitar work is nothing short of stunning, showcasing a range of breathtaking lead lines that culminate in an exhilarating solo.
Switching his Ibanez for a custom Gibson Explorer, Mäntysaari plays with an intensity that captivates, delivering a series of mind-blowing riffs and a jaw-dropping solo.
Mustaine’s Guitar Duel
mustaine also showcases his skills in a thrilling guitar duel with his young protégé. This dynamic was intentional, as Mustaine shared with Guitar World.
“Teemu is such an extraordinary talent that he reignited my passion for playing,” Mustaine remarked about Let There Be Shred in an upcoming issue of GW. “We joked about how we needed to make this record a true shred-fest, packed with solos. I believe we achieved that.”
“A unique aspect of let There Be Shred is how teemu and I approached our guitar duels. He handled all the shredding, while I focused on the more melodic elements. It was a fun contrast, especially given the song’s lyrical themes, which were meant to challenge our guitar skills.”
Lyric Highlights and Visuals
The lyrics also deserve a spotlight: “Guitars are all screaming / They squeal with delight / Clawing fretboards away / At the speed of light.” And yes, the music video features Dave Mustaine showcasing some extraordinary karate moves!
Mäntysaari is clearly enjoying his brief time with Megadeth, leaving a significant mark on the band’s legacy with his contributions. It’s unfortunate that we’ll only have one album featuring him.
“This track was crafted with joy and a deep appreciation for loud amplifiers, rapid riffs, and all of you who thrive on that exhilarating feeling,” Mustaine commented beneath the music video. “If it made you smile, headbang, or air-shred even once, then we’ve succeeded. Thank you for allowing us to pursue our passion – now crank it up and let there be shred!”
When announcing Megadeth’s farewell, Mustaine expressed gratitude to fans and reflected on his influence in the thrash metal scene.
“Don’t be upset, don’t be sad; celebrate with us in the coming years,” he urged. ”We pioneered a musical genre, ignited a revolution, transformed the guitar landscape, and made a lasting impact on the world.”
Megadeth will release their final album through Mustaine’s Tradecraft label in collaboration with BLKIIBLK on January 23, 2026. For preorders, visit Megadeth’s official website.
