This album is a far cry from a mere showcase of technical prowess; the title track embodies the Australian virtuoso’s philosophy of “playing the least amount of guitar possible while still being a guitarist.” It features expansive ambient soundscapes, powerful rhythmic riffs that resonate, and leads characterized by yearning, shimmering bends.

In stark contrast, the Northern Irish duo chalk has released their latest single, Longer, wich embodies a darker aesthetic. this track features a heavy, industrial riff that resonates with a raw intensity. Their new track, A Storm Of Wings, serves as a teaser for their upcoming album Fantasia, which promises to be far more engaging than the underwhelming Disney film of the same name.

As spring unfolds,New York City is buzzing with life, shaking off the remnants of a harsh winter. My playlists have shifted to reflect this change, becoming more vibrant and less melancholic. A notable influence has been the rise of bossa nova in my listening habits, spurred on by my recent viewing of the captivating brazilian film The Secret Agent, which has inspired me to delve deeper into this genre.
March Music Roundup: Fresh Collaborations and New Releases
Few artists are pushing the boundaries of their genre quite like Brooklyn’s own Mei Semones. In her latest collaboration with singer-songwriter John Roseboro, the duo showcases their chemistry, having previously teamed up for a stunning rendition of the bossa nova classic Waters of March. This time, Semones trades her usual PRS guitar for a nylon-string model, delivering an notable performance. Make sure to listen until the end; the breathtaking lick that concludes the track is worth the journey alone.
modest Mouse: A Nostalgic Return
I was thrilled to see the return of Modest Mouse, a band that has been a favorite of mine since my early teens. their new album, Look How Far…, proves that even after years of chart-topping success and massive crowds, Isaac Brock’s unique style remains intact. Fans of his signature freak-funk guitar riffs will not be disappointed, as the track is packed with unexpected guitar textures, including quirky skronk and random fuzz bursts, all within a sub-two-minute runtime.
Iceage: Post-Punk Excellence
Additionally,I want to highlight Iceage’s latest single,Star, which exemplifies post-punk at its finest. The song features intricate chord progressions that will delight fans of The Strokes and Interpol, along with dual guitar leads that channel Thin Lizzy’s gritty essence. It’s a glorious addition to their discography.

Recently, I penned an article about how a blues guitar legend transformed my playing by teaching me the proper way to hold a guitar pick. This nostalgic journey led me back to the blues artists who initially inspired me to pick up the instrument. Coincidentally, this reflection aligns perfectly with the release of a new single from Kirk Fletcher, another of my guitar heroes, titled Cold Cold Feeling, featuring Erica baier.
For anyone looking to enhance their guitar skills or discover new licks, Fletcher should be on your playlist. his ability to keep the pentatonic scale fresh, along with his subtle fusion influences, is truly remarkable. Cold Cold Feeling is a vibrant 12-bar blues that allows him to showcase his talents, seamlessly blending rhythm and lead in a way that is both tasteful and engaging.
Outside the blues genre, I’ve been enjoying Bleachers’ new single, dirty wedding dress. Led by Jack Antonoff, the band is gearing up for a new album, and I’m eagerly anticipating its release.Antonoff’s contributions to The 1975’s Being Funny in a Foreign language were exceptional, and I beleive he is a fantastic songwriter in his own right. Plus, his gretsch signature guitar is one of my favorites in recent years, which certainly adds to my excitement.

I tend to obsess over albums that resonate deeply with me (sue me). Recently, I’ve been captivated by Rosalía’s Lux and Bad Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos. Now, genre-blending artist Raye has joined this elite group with her cinematic new album, This Album May Contain Hope.
While I’m particularly drawn to the soulful heartbreak of Goodbye Henry-a collaboration with the legendary Al Green-this track also features the sophisticated, jazz-inflected guitar work of Paul Murray alongside Liv Thompson’s rich, soulful bassline. The entire 17-track album is a must-listen,offering a refreshing contrast to today’s music landscape that frequently enough favors short hooks over fully developed songs.

On a different note, I want to highlight the remarkable track Look At Me by Jehnny Beth, featuring the iconic Mike Patton of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle fame. This song continues the industrial sound explored in her 2025 album,You Heartbreaker,You,incorporating grunge and noise textures that enrich the overall experience.
Atabasca: A Dreamy Discovery
Before I wrap up, I must mention Dune by Atabasca, a trio I just discovered this morning. This ethereal, four-minute instrumental piece beautifully blends calming, meditative guitar melodies with a nostalgic tune exchanged between a whistle (reminiscent of Scorpions’ Wind of Change) and the bass. They are definitely a band to add to your playlists alongside the likes of Khruangbin, Imarhan, and Altın Gün.
