Featuring an impressive lineup of musicians such as Joe Bonamassa, Vince Gill, Lenny Kravitz, and Mike Campbell, the documentary delves into the remarkable 50-year journey of Norman Harris. Harris not only crafted the store’s legendary status but also ignited the vintage guitar phenomenon.
“When you visit norm’s, you’re stepping into a realm filled with extraordinary guitars, and you might just bump into Tom Petty,” remarks actor and musician Jeff Daniels in the film’s opening. “Its like a musical paradise, a sanctuary for guitar enthusiasts.”

The film also sheds light on the explosive growth of the vintage guitar market, which has led to notable price increases that have sparked mixed reactions among musicians and collectors alike.
“Back in the day, no one realized that a $300 guitar could fetch $50,000 to $60,000 four decades later,” reflects Gill.
Mike Campbell shares his own experience: “The first time I walked into Norm’s shop, I ended up in a heated discussion with him. My first vintage guitar was a 1964 Stratocaster that cost $200; I had to borrow money to buy it.”
Norman Harris: A Visionary in the Guitar World
“I returned one day looking for a backup guitar, and he had one that caught my eye,” Campbell recalls. “I asked about the price, and he said it was $20,000. I was furious! That felt outrageous. But Norm had the foresight to see that the market was about to explode, while I was still thinking in the past.”
indeed, when Harris began his venture, most music shops shunned vintage instruments. Today, he has proven his critics wrong, having sold iconic guitars ranging from a unique TV star Stratocaster to John Fogerty’s 1969 Rickenbacker 325.
There are whispers that Joe Bonamassa may be poised to inherit Harris’ legacy when he eventually steps down, but for now, he remains firmly at the helm.
