Introducing the Marcus King Signature El Dorado Acoustic: A Tribute to Musical Heritage
Epiphone has just launched the Marcus King Signature el Dorado acoustic guitar, a heartfelt homage to the instrument that shaped his early musical journey.
As a child, King received an Epiphone El Dorado acoustic from his father, a gift that has remained a loyal companion throughout his career. Now,this cherished guitar is receiving a special signature edition.
King has already paid tribute to this iconic instrument by naming his 2020 album after it. With this new release, Epiphone aims to elevate that legacy, making it accessible to a broader audience.
Craftsmanship and Features
The Marcus King El Dorado captures the essence of the original model, featuring a solid spruce top paired with solid rosewood back and sides.According to Epiphone, the quality of the wood will enhance its tonal richness as it ages, promising a more expressive sound over time.
The guitar showcases exquisite craftsmanship with four-ply top binding and single-ply back binding. Its C-profile mahogany neck is joined to the body using a conventional dovetail joint. The headstock, adorned with mother-of-pearl inlays, reflects a vintage 1970s aesthetic, while the bone nut and Epiphone Deluxe tuners with metal buttons ensure reliable tuning stability.
Electro-Acoustic Features
This electro-acoustic model is equipped with a three-ply bound rosewood fingerboard featuring 20 frets and rounded-corner mother-of-pearl block inlays, enhancing both playability and visual appeal.
Additionally, it includes an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze under-saddle pickup and preamp system, complete with soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls. However,it’s significant to note that a 9V battery for the pickup is not included with the guitar.
Design Elements and Personal Touches
In a nod to King’s roots, the guitar features a belly-down rosewood bridge fitted with a compensated bone saddle and black pins. Subtle design elements, such as the silhouette of South Carolina and Tennessee’s Tri-Star emblem, are incorporated into the aesthetics, while the pickguard closely resembles King’s original guitar.
“This guitar holds immense meaning for me,” King shares. “My first El Dorado was a gift from my father, and it has been with me through some of the most pivotal moments of my musical journey.”
