Introducing the Double Trouble Les Paul: A Nostalgic Journey Through Time

Gibson has unveiled its latest creation, the Double Trouble Les Paul,a stunning⁣ blend of uncovered ‘Classic White’ humbuckers⁢ and faded ⁣vintage nitrocellulose finishes, available in a limited-edition series.

According ‌to Guitar World, these models were first showcased at Gibson’s ⁣NAMM 2025 event, where they⁤ caught the attention⁣ of many. The design seems ⁤to draw inspiration from the company’s ⁤ongoing legal disputes with DiMarzio, especially regarding the PAF name and the trademark on ⁢cream-colored humbucker designs, known as Double-Cream pickups.

Classic Designs with Modern Flair

The Double Trouble series features two distinct models: a ‘50s and a ‘60s-styled Les ⁣Paul Standard. Each model‍ is available in Vintage Cherry and tobacco Burst finishes, both equipped⁣ with the ‍eye-catching ‘Classic White’ humbuckers.

As highlighted on Gibson’s website, “The covers are off, and it’s time to rock with these new, limited-edition Les Paul Standards.”

Impressive Specifications

These ⁣guitars boast impressive specifications. Both models ⁢are crafted from non-weight relieved mahogany bodies topped‌ with carved maple caps, mahogany necks, and Indian rosewood⁣ fretboards featuring 22 medium ⁢jumbo frets and ⁢classic ⁣trapezoid inlays. However, they are adorned with ‌unique decade-specific details.

The ‘50s model showcases⁢ a neck profile‍ true to the ‌era and derives⁣ its tonal character from uncovered Burstbucker 1 and Burstbucker 2 pickups. These pickups utilize Alnico⁢ II magnets paired with new Double Classic⁣ White bobbins, delivering an “elegant ⁤vintage‌ vibe.”

Standard LP electronics are present, including two Volume and two Tone knobs, hand-wired with orange Drop capacitors,⁢ along with a three-way‌ pickup toggle switch.

Its all-nickel ⁣hardware features an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, an aluminum stop bar tailpiece, and Vintage Deluxe tuners with keystone buttons.

Distinct Features⁤ of the ‘60s Model

In contrast,‍ the ‘60s model is equipped with a SlimTaper neck ⁣profile and ‌Burstbucker 61R and Burstbucker 61T pickups, providing a unique sonic signature. These uncovered ‍pickups also feature Double Classic ⁢White bobbins but utilize Alnico 5 magnets ‌for a brighter,⁣ more‌ aggressive sound. They are⁣ also hand-wired with audio taper potentiometers and Orange Drop capacitors.

While the ABR-1 bridge remains consistent, the⁣ tuners have been upgraded to Grover Rotomatics with kidney buttons.

Retro ⁣finishes for an Authentic look

Both models are distinguished by their retro-tinted finishes.⁤ Gibson explains, “The finish colors are ‘Vintage’ variations on our standard nitrocellulose lacquer finishes.” The full-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer Vintage finishes on the Les Paul standard Double Trouble models are intentionally faded, mimicking ⁣the subtle aging that occurs over time.

This⁤ sun-faded aesthetic is reminiscent of‌ Jason Isbell’s beloved 1959 ‘Red Eye’ ‍Les Paul, which famously faded after being displayed in a guitar shop window.

Limited availability and Pricing

Only 500 units of each ⁢color will be produced, totaling 2,000 guitars ⁣in this limited run. Each model is priced at ‍$2,799 and includes a Gibson ‌hard shell guitar case.

Watch On ‌

Gibson’s⁢ latest release adds to an already exciting year for the brand. Collaborations with ⁣artists like Warren Haynes⁢ for a‍ highly anticipated P-90-loaded signature Les Paul and Brian May for a unique 12-string acoustic have generated buzz. Additionally,⁤ Gibson has revisited its archives to ⁤revive its long-lost Superstrat era and ⁢brought back the Dave Grohl and Ghost-approved RD model.

In a notable legal victory, Gibson has also secured a favorable ruling⁤ in its ongoing dispute with Dean, reaffirming that Dean infringed on Gibson’s trademark with its Z and V-shaped designs.
