A Surprising Turn of Events
The folk music icon has kept fans and fellow musicians guessing with his ever-evolving guitar team. The first unexpected addition was jazz virtuoso Julian Lage, who stepped in to replace Doug Lancio, who had been part of the tour since 2021.
Just three weeks later, two more surprise guitarists, Jad Tariq and Joel Patterson, joined the mix. Speculation arose that Tariq was filling in for Lage, who had prior commitments that prevented him from attending certain shows.
Jimmie Vaughan’s Unexpected Appearance
Vaughan’s surprise appearance on the final night of the tour added an intriguing twist to the lineup. the brother of the late blues legend Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmie has a longstanding connection with dylan, having previously supported him on a tour in 2006 and sharing the stage with him in 2024, where he filled in for Lancio on several songs in Austin, Texas.

During a performance at the Ascend Federal Credit Union Amphitheater in Nashville, Tennessee, on August 1, Vaughan returned to the stage for three songs in Dylan’s set. He kicked off with the track False Prophet, followed by a rendition of Bo Diddley’s I Can Tell, and concluded with Goodbye Jimmy Reed.
According to Dylan enthusiast Henry Bernstein,Vaughan initially played with a reserved approach but gradually became bolder with his solos. Bernstein noted that during False Prophet, Vaughan got close to Dylan, who was visibly enjoying the moment, smiling and even singing some lyrics directly to him.
