Julian Lage stands at the forefront of contemporary jazz guitar, and he’s set to grace the SFJAZZ stage as the Resident Artistic Director during the final weekend of February. this exciting series of performances will take place at the renowned Miner Auditorium. Kicking off on thursday, Lage will showcase his talents in a solo guitar format, followed by a captivating duo with bassist Jorge Roeder on Friday. Saturday will see him joined by Roeder, John Medeski, and Kenny Wolleson in a dynamic quartet, culminating in a special duo performance with the legendary guitarist Marc Ribot on Sunday.Guitar Player will be present on that memorable day, February 23, eagerly anticipating the harmonious blend of these two jazz virtuosos.
Last year, we attended Lage’s residency at SFJAZZ, where he unveiled new compositions from his acclaimed Blue Note album, Speak to Me, which later earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. This album beautifully intertwines electric and acoustic guitar elements, a theme that resonated throughout his performances at SFJAZZ. His solo acoustic set was nothing short of remarkable, filled with breathtaking moments. Following the event, we had the chance to delve deeper into his artistry thru an exclusive interview, where he shared invaluable insights.
