Boone revealed that the amp was serendipitously located on the shores of Kauai, Hawaii, where it had been in the possession of the same owner for nearly 35 years. Reflecting on the meaning of this find, renowned guitarist Joe Bonamassa aptly remarked, “What a grail.”
A unique Piece of Musical Heritage
This tube amplifier is one of only three units crafted for the Beach Boys around 1982-1983. Initially wrapped in pristine white Tolex, it was later covered with carpet by the band’s roadies to maintain its appearance during tours. After all, those white vinyl amps can be quite challenging to keep clean!
“I’ve kept this long-lost Beach Boys amp under wraps for a decade until the owner was ready to part with it,” Boone shared on Instagram. “When I received the call, I quickly gathered my team and headed to Kauai to retrieve this and 20 other astonishing items.”
“This amp is a wholly original ‘grail-era’ ODS and comes with the original receipts and Beach Boys road case,” he added. “There are videos showcasing this amp in its original white finish, as well as with the carpet covering shortly after. For ten years, I envisioned this Beach Boys Dumble ON A BEACH, and finally getting it was a moment I’ll never forget.”
Momoa’s Commitment to the Legacy
Momoa,the proud new owner,is eager to put this amplifier to good use. He has no intention of selling it; instead, he plans to crank it up and make music. “There’s too much history in it,” he stated. “These amps were used during the Beach Boys’ Live Aid performance in 1985, and they had the carpet on then.”

After a decade of searching,Momoa feels lucky to have found it just in time for his upcoming projects. “We’re recording in two days,” he shared. “ÖOF TATATÁ is making our first album, and I was like, ‘You have a Dumble in Hawaii? Please send it right now. I love it, man.Maybe we’ll clean it someday, but not today. It’s a dirty Dumble.’”
For those Dumble enthusiasts still hoping to find a similar piece,Boone mentioned that there is another unaccounted Dumble out there,still covered in carpet. Another “pearl in the oyster,” as he put it.
Though, don’t even think about making an offer to Momoa for his prized possession. He firmly stated, “I’m gonna have this motherf***er buried with me!”
