May previously lent his guitar skills to Iommi’s work, including the solo on When Death Calls from Black Sabbath’s Headless Cross in 1988, and collaborated with him on the 2000 track Goodbye Lament from Iommi’s self-titled album, which featured numerous guest artists.
In a testament to their enduring friendship, May recently surprised Iommi with a left-handed version of his famous Red special guitar for Christmas. Their bond continues to thrive as thay work together on From the Dark.

“We keep in touch regularly,” Iommi noted about his relationship with May. “He’s joined me on stage a few times,and we’ve collaborated on several tracks. He’s truly a very close friend.”
Interestingly, Iommi offered May the opportunity to contribute more to the album, but the Queen guitarist preferred to keep his involvement limited, stating, “Your solos are great. I don’t need to play more.”
“It was fantastic that he participated at all. I played him a few ideas, and he recorded his parts right here in my studio. He would play something and then question it, but I loved what he did,” Iommi shared.

Set to be released on October 23, From the Dark marks a significant return for Iommi. He has hinted at exploring orchestral elements and has even experimented with a Kemper profiling amplifier during the recording process.
