Gibson’s Acoustic Specials: Affordable Artistry for Every Musician
Gibson has introduced its Acoustic Specials collection, featuring innovative,budget-amiable versions of three iconic acoustic guitar models. This new series aims to make high-quality, handcrafted guitars accessible to a wider audience.
Affordable Craftsmanship for 2025
Launching in 2025, the Acoustic Specials series is a strategic move by Gibson to offer USA-made, artisan-crafted acoustics at unprecedented price points. While these guitars are priced around $2,000, they stand out as the most economical US-made options currently available from Gibson.
Before the arrival of the $1,999 L-00 Special, the closest alternative was the L-00 Studio Rosewood, priced at $2,299. Similarly, the $1,999 J-45 was previously listed at $2,399, and the $2,199 Hummingbird was onc overshadowed by the $3,000 Hummingbird Studio, making this new pricing structure particularly appealing.
Exciting Developments in Acoustic Guitars
This initiative is a critically important step forward, as it brings genuine, handcrafted USA Gibson acoustics—crafted directly in the Bozeman factory—to a broader range of players. While these prices may still be a stretch for some, the effort to lower the barrier for entry into the world of premium acoustics is commendable.
Classic Features and Modern Enhancements
The Acoustic Specials series includes three models, each designed with classic neck profiles, mahogany back and sides, and satin nitro finishes available in Sunburst or Wine Red. Additionally, they come equipped with L.R. Baggs electronics for enhanced sound quality.
Each model features rosewood bridges, a sitka spruce top, traditional scalloped X-bracing, and 12” radius rosewood fingerboards. Other specifications include Grover Rotomatic tuners, TUSQ nuts, bridge pins, and saddles, along with the L.R. Baggs Element Bronze under-saddle piezo pickup for superior amplification.
Distinctive Design Elements
unique characteristics set each model apart, such as the Hummingbird’s striking extended pickguard design, which is a simplified version of the renowned Hummingbird graphics, complemented by pearloid parallelogram inlays.
“Handcrafted at Gibson Acoustic in Bozeman, Montana, by the expert luthiers at Gibson, these guitars offer premium, USA-made craftsmanship at an remarkable value,” the company states.
