Renowned guitarist Joe Bonamassa has unveiled his latest signature gear: the Fuchs JB-ODS combo amplifier.
This 100-watt powerhouse draws inspiration from the legendary Dumble Overdrive Special, originally conceived as a custom amp for Bonamassa’s studio sessions and intimate performances.
“And we are live!” bonamassa announced on Facebook, revealing the JB-ODS. “the worst-kept secret in the amp world is now available.”
Bonamassa elaborated that the idea for this amp emerged about a year and a half ago when he contacted Andy Fuchs, a highly regarded amp designer known for his expertise in Dumble-inspired amplifiers, to create a portable combo amp.
“I reached out to Andy and said, ‘Can you craft an amp for me? I’ll send you a Celestion speaker – can you make a 100-watt combo that I can easily transport around New York City?’”
“He crafted one of these ODS models for me,” Bonamassa recalls. “And honestly,it entirely amazed me.”
The JB-ODS is based on Fuchs’ existing Overdrive Supreme model, which serves as a modern interpretation of the original Dumble amps, enhanced with unique Fuchs modifications. Notably, it features onboard reverb-absent in many classic Dumbles-and Bonamassa’s custom JB-85 Celestion 12″ speaker.
Additional features include selectable mid-boost frequencies, dual gain boosts, a three-position Brite switch, an effects loop, and a DC fan that ensures the aluminum chassis remains “cool all night long.”
“and it’s not priced at $175,000,which is notable. Not everyone can afford that for an amplifier.”
Though, it’s certainly worth noting that the Fuchs JB-ODS is not exactly budget-amiable, retailing for $3,999 on Joe Bonamassa’s online store.
