While it may sound bold to claim a “new standard in bass preamps,” the collaboration with Nathan East, the most recorded bassist in history, lends credibility to this assertion.
The Laney DB-EAST-PRE is meticulously crafted in the UK and has undergone rigorous testing by East himself. With over four decades of experience touring and recording with legends like Eric Clapton, and contributing to iconic tracks such as Get Lucky, East’s discerning taste has substantially influenced the design and functionality of this preamp.
A Legacy of Innovation
The journey of the DB-EAST-PRE traces back to Laney’s Digbeth DB500H bass amplifier, wich East adopted in 2023. This partnership led to the creation of a signature head, the dual-input DB-EAST, last year. The remarkable versatility of that model has now been distilled into this compact yet powerful preamp.
The dual-input feature remains a cornerstone of the design, allowing bassists to seamlessly transition between different setups-be it switching from acoustic to electric, or from four-string to five-string instruments. Each input is equipped with pre-configured outputs, ensuring a smooth transition. Notably, the second input includes a trim pot for precise level adjustments, catering to various performance scenarios.
Designed for Versatility
In terms of controls, the Master Volume adjusts the overall character of the amp, while the Tube channel offers extensive EQ options. The Range dial enhances the low-end response during overdrive, and selectable mid pre-shapes provide further tone customization. Additionally, a Tilt switch allows for subtle adjustments to the low or high frequencies without altering the overall EQ balance.
Portability is a key feature of this preamp. Equipped with East’s preferred impulse responses, including those from renowned recording setups, a companion app enables users to tailor the DI output, making it adaptable for any venue or occasion.
