This partnership marks a special occasion as it coincides with the first anniversary of Gibson Garage London,which will be celebrated during the upcoming Gibson Garage Fest.
Earlier this month, festival announcements hinted at the launch of high-profile guitars designed in collaboration with renowned artists, and now we have the first reveal from this much-anticipated event.
Exclusive Release Details
The Gibson johnny Marr ’84 Les Paul standard featuring a Bigsby tailpiece will be available exclusively at the Gibson Garage London starting next Friday, February 21.Only 20 units will be produced,each hand-signed by the legendary guitarist himself.
While the price remains undisclosed, these unique instruments are expected to sell out quickly, with all proceeds benefiting the Teenage Cancer Trust.
A Guitar with a Rich Legacy
The guitar in question is a faithful recreation of one of Marr’s most significant instruments. Originally used during the recording of The Smiths’ acclaimed album Meat Is Murder, this Les paul quickly became one of Marr’s go-to guitars.
It has been a staple both on stage and in the studio, not only with The Smiths but also during marr’s collaborations with The The, The Pretenders, The Cribs, and Noel Gallagher’s high Flying Birds.
Johnny Marr’s Personal Connection
Marr has often expressed his deep affection for this particular Les Paul, stating that it is the guitar he has utilized on more recordings than any other. “I purchased this guitar from A1 Repairs in Manchester for the second Smiths album,Meat Is Murder,” Marr shared with The Guardian. “It may surprise some to learn that this is the guitar I’ve used on more records than any other.”
he further elaborated, “When people think of my signature sound, they often assume it’s a Rickenbacker or a Fender, but it’s frequently this 1980s Les Paul that has been my secret weapon.”

Marr is thrilled about the recreation of his cherished guitar, especially as it supports the teenage Cancer trust, an organization he has been associated with for nearly a decade. “it’s a privilege to be involved in this good cause, especially when it involves creating a fantastic Les Paul,” he stated.

Each guitar is crafted through Gibson’s Made-to-Measure program, ensuring authenticity and quality. The artisans at Gibson’s Custom shop in Nashville and Bozeman meticulously create these instruments,which feature the classic specifications of a Les Paul,including the iconic B50 Bigsby tailpiece.
Looking Ahead: More Collaborations
Lee Bartram, Head of Commercial, Marketing and Cultural influence – EMEA, expressed excitement about continuing the partnership with the teenage Cancer Trust. “For 2025, we are honored to have Johnny Marr supporting our efforts,” he noted.
This collaboration adds to marr’s impressive portfolio of signature guitars, which includes models from both Fender and gibson, and also a recent partnership with Martin for a seven-string acoustic guitar.
Gibson Garage Fest Highlights
In addition to the Marr Les Paul,the Gibson Garage Fest will feature a one-time public display of Jack Bruce’s iconic EB-1 bass,famously used during the Cream reunion in 2005.
