Interestingly, the only member from that session who wouldn’t have joined was bassist John Paul Jones. Rather, Moon proposed bringing in John Entwistle from The Who to take on both bass and lead vocals.

Ultimately, the project fizzled out. “We thought, ‘Let’s just drop it,’ instead of actively searching for another singer,” Page reflected. ”Then The Who went on tour, the Yardbirds were also busy, and that was the end of it.”
In hindsight, it turned out to be a fortunate turn of events. Although Page was initially disheartened by the Yardbirds’ disbandment, a new opportunity arose when John Paul Jones reached out to him. “Jonesy was in,” Page confirmed, setting the stage for a new collaboration.
Initially, Terry Reid was suggested as the frontman for the next iteration of the Yardbirds, but he was already committed to another project. However, Reid was eager to assist and connected Page with a singer from a band called Hobbstweedle-Robert Plant.

Plant then introduced Page to a drummer named John Bonham,and just like that,the true original Led Zeppelin was formed. Interestingly, it was Keith Moon who gets credit for naming the band.”It was Moon,” Page confirmed when asked about the origin of the name. “I’m sure of it, despite any claims Entwistle might make. He must have been disappointed that the original Led Zeppelin never took off.”
