Though he’s still in his twenties, blues ⁤sensation Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram ⁢has firmly⁣ established himself as a ⁢formidable ⁣force in teh‍ music scene.

As a Grammy-winning musician, Ingram has garnered ⁤admiration from both seasoned artists and⁣ contemporaries alike. He boasts a ‌signature Kingfish Telecaster Deluxe, and‌ has shared‌ the stage with⁢ legends like The ⁤Rolling Stones, Slash, and Joe Bonamassa.

Evolution of‌ Sound: A New Chapter

In 2022, Ingram unveiled his third ‌studio album, Hard Road, showcasing a depth ⁤and variety that surpasses his⁣ previous ⁣works. While the album retains ⁣its ⁢blues-rock essence, it reflects a shift towards ‌cleaner, more soulful melodies, moving away from the heavier ‌sounds that characterized his earlier music.

Artistic ‍Growth at the Forefront

“This album represents my⁢ artistic evolution,” Ingram‍ explains. “While my core sound remains intact, I consciously ⁢explored new sonic territories during the recording process.” He⁢ notes that certain tracks called for a ⁢more ‍refined approach, prompting him to experiment with styles he hadn’t ⁣previously explored.

Documenting Personal Journeys

“The songs on this album are a reflection of my life over the past four ‍years,” ⁣he shares. “Some⁤ were penned during the sessions ‌for‌ my Grammy-winning⁢ album 662, but they also capture my feelings and experiences as then.”‌ Ingram‌ has collaborated with various songwriters, but he takes pride in tracks he crafted solo, such as “Clearly,” which he wrote during a late-night studio session.

Gear That Shapes the Sound

Ingram utilized his signature⁣ Telecaster extensively, along with ‍an ES-335 borrowed from the studio. The ⁤album was primarily recorded using his live setup, featuring pedals like⁣ the marshall ShredMaster and a classic fender Twin amp. Some rhythm tracks were even recorded directly into the board for a rawer sound.

Dynamic Opening Track

The album kicks off with “Truth,” which features funky single-note lines, a‌ soaring wah solo, and some‍ of Ingram’s most memorable vocals to date. “That track was recorded using‍ a ‌purple Custom Shop Stratocaster, which also graced the cover of my ⁣ 662 album,” he reveals. “I’m⁣ focusing on enhancing⁢ my vocal skills, as I believe my singing is just as vital as my guitar work.”

Exploring ‌New ‍Musical Influences

“bad Like Me” features chromatic chord progressions and jazzy elements that evoke the style ‌of Stevie Wonder. “It was a thrilling challenge to step outside my comfort zone and⁤ experiment vocally,” Ingram‌ reflects. “The jazz influence‍ stems from⁢ my diverse listening habits, including ‍artists like ⁢Oscar peterson and Charlie‍ Parker.”

Inspirations from Guitar Legends

Ingram cites guitarists like Charlie Christian as pivotal in ⁤shaping his approach to blending bebop ⁣lines with rock ⁣and blues. He admires Josh Smith for his ability to fuse these genres ‌seamlessly, aspiring to ⁤achieve a similar sound in his own music.

Christone ‘kingfish’ Ingram’s⁤ Latest Musical Journey

Ingram’s self-composed track Clearly showcases‌ intricate jazz‌ harmonies, perhaps marking it as his most jazz-influenced piece to date. “It⁢ features some ‍major 7 chords that I had been ⁢contemplating for a ‍while. One night in the studio, ⁤everything just ‍clicked, and the song flowed effortlessly,” he shares.

Exploring New Musical Territories

Another ⁤standout track,Nothin’ But your ‍Love,is a heartfelt ballad ‍set in Ab major. When‌ performing such a piece, Ingram focuses on ‌the major key, aiming to convey a vivid narrative through his guitar work. “I frequently enough‍ visualize the story I want to tell, using ⁢swells and a softer⁣ touch, which contrasts with my usual approach. While I’ve grown accustomed ‌to this style, it’s a departure ‍from the‌ more minor-centric blues I⁤ used to⁣ play,” he ⁣explains.

Confidence ⁢in ⁤His Craft

Ingram’s current music reflects a newfound confidence in his artistry. “It feels like riding a wave. With three Grammy nominations under my belt-one of which I won-and numerous blues accolades, I’m focused on continuing my journey,” he‌ states.

Collaborations with ⁢Influential Artists

Having been endorsed by⁤ Eric⁢ Gales, Ingram ⁣contributed to Gales’⁢ 2017 album Middle Of The Road and his recent⁤ release, A Tribute To LJK. “I played on the track Help‍ Yourself from Middle Of The Road and Rockin Horse Ride on his latest project. ‌Eric’s brother,Manuel, known as Little Jimmy King, also‌ inspired⁤ me as I ⁢expanded my sound,” he recalls.

“Eric’s music pushed⁤ me to explore the blues-rock genre‌ further. Here ‌was a ‍talented Black artist from memphis, not far from my roots in Mississippi, blending⁤ a hip-hop vibe with‌ passionate blues riffs ‍reminiscent ⁣of legends‍ like B.B. King.That was a pivotal moment‌ for me,” Ingram ‍reflects.

Learning from ⁣the Best:⁤ Insights from Eric Gales

Many consider Eric Gales ⁤to be one ⁣of the‍ finest blues⁤ guitarists alive ⁤today.Reflecting on his influence, Ingram shares, “Mr. Gales ⁤introduced me to the Eric Johnson pentatonic technique. I learned to explore that scale across different positions ⁣on the neck, ascending and descending⁣ in groups of four, five,or six notes. This approach creates a melodic and rhythmic⁣ sound that has considerably improved my speed.”

“While eric is known for‌ his speed,he also plays with‌ incredible soul.I’m still mastering these techniques, but observing how he executes‌ them has been invaluable. It’s not ⁢about whether you pick every note or use legato; what‍ matters is that it sounds good,”⁢ he adds.

Buddy Guy: The Last of the Blues legends

Ingram acknowledges⁣ Buddy Guy as a pivotal figure in ‌the blues genre, stating,”Among the original blues musicians,Mr. Guy is the last living link. He revolutionized blues-rock‍ with his⁢ wild and unrestrained style, pushing⁣ boundaries while others played more conservatively.”

“He boldly ⁣declared, ‘I’m going to hit this out of the park!’ His bending ⁣techniques‌ are endless, and while I⁢ struggle to ⁤replicate that, he always makes it sound effortless,” Ingram admits.

Expanding ⁣Beyond‍ the Pentatonic Scale

Ingram expresses ‍his comfort with the pentatonic scale but‍ emphasizes ‌the importance of breaking free from traditional box⁤ shapes.”Listening to a variety of ⁣music, from MonoNeon ⁢to Ghost-Note and Snarky Puppy, inspires me to incorporate ⁣new elements into my sound. It’s⁣ essential to explore different positions and ‍tones ⁣to⁢ keep the blues fresh and engaging,” he⁤ explains.

“I often add or omit notes, and sometimes I double-pick to enhance the⁤ quality of certain⁤ notes. It’s all⁣ about experimentation,” he adds.

A Dream Lesson with Prince

If given the chance, Ingram woudl ⁣choose to learn from Prince, a master of blending shredding ⁤with melody. ”I’d ask him about his soloing techniques as he always seemed to play the perfect notes. I⁢ frequently enough wonder ⁣if he was thinking ‍in terms of scales or just feeling the music in the moment,” he ⁤reflects.

Prince’s Iconic Performances

Ingram recalls Prince’s legendary performance ‌of ⁢ while My Guitar Gently Weeps at the 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction as a standout ‍moment. “He‍ absolutely nailed it.⁣ Prince was not only⁢ an incredible lead guitarist but also ⁢a versatile musician who could write, ‌play multiple instruments, and ⁣sing,” he praises.

“Some of my favorite⁣ Prince tracks include I wanna Be Your lover, Erotic City, and Kiss. His funky playing style has greatly influenced my own, likely stemming from his inspirations like Catfish Collins and ⁤other musicians who worked with James Brown,” Ingram notes.

Future Aspirations as a ‍Guitarist

Looking ⁢ahead, Ingram ‍is focused on enhancing his skills. “I’m currently working‍ on navigating chord changes and incorporating more of my⁤ jazz ⁤influences into my playing. That’s my primary goal right now,” he concludes.
