A Musical Legacy remembered
Jeff Beck, who passed away in January 2023 at the age of 78, left behind a remarkable legacy. His career spanned decades, during which he played with legendary bands like the Yardbirds alongside Jimmy Page, navigated the musical landscape post-Jimi Hendrix, and carved out a unique identity as a solo artist with 11 studio albums to his name.
Beck was also a sought-after collaborator, contributing his talents to tracks by notable artists such as ozzy Osbourne,Bon Jovi, and paul rodgers, showcasing his versatility and appeal across genres.
Global Bidding Frenzy
The auction attracted bids from 40 countries, highlighting Beck’s worldwide influence. Among the standout items was his rare Oxblood Gibson Les Paul, famously featured on the cover of the Blow by Blow album, which sold for over $1,315,708 (£1,068,500). This unique 1954 model was purchased by Beck in 1972 for just $300, after the original owner failed to claim it from a Memphis guitar shop.
This iconic guitar’s final price more than doubled its pre-sale estimate, setting a new record as the most expensive Gibson Les Paul ever sold, surpassing Duane Allman’s 1957 model, which fetched $1.25 million in 2019.
Notable Sales and Surprising Records
Another highlight was Beck’s 1959 ‘Yardburst’ Les Paul, which sold for $496,484 (£403,200), significantly exceeding its estimated value of $49,000 to $74,000. Additionally, a vibrant hot-pink ’83 Jackson Soloist, gifted to him by Grover Jackson and used on Tina Turner’s Private Dancer album, broke records by selling for $543,029 (£441,000), making it the most expensive Jackson guitar ever auctioned.
Beck’s pedalboard from his final tour in 2022 also attracted attention, selling for $155,151 (£126,000). Another standout piece, a Custom Shop Stratocaster named Anoushka, sold for $1,241,211 (£1,008,000) and showcased notable wear from years of performance.
Unique Instruments and Charitable Contributions
One of the more unusual items, a Tele-Gib—a hybrid of a ‘59 Les Paul and a Telecaster—was sold for $853,332, eight times its estimated value. This guitar was a gift from a luthier in 1974, reflecting Beck’s deep connections within the music community.
His all-white 1960 Stratocaster also fetched a remarkable $543,000 (£441,000). Proceeds from the final four items, including a signed Stratocaster from a tribute concert at the royal albert Hall in 2023, will be donated to Folly Wildlife Rescue in Tunbridge Wells, U.K., a charity supported by Jeff and Sandra Beck, along with their friend Johnny Depp.
A Legacy Celebrated
Sandra Beck expressed her joy over the auction results, emphasizing the importance of keeping Jeff’s legacy alive through his instruments. “I am so happy that Jeff’s guitars have been so popular amongst his fans and friends,” she remarked. “thank you so much for your belief in Jeff’s legacy.”

Passionate bidders competed for every lot in the sale, with each achieving manny multiples of their pre-sale estimate.”
