Unmissable Reunion: alex Van halen and david Lee Roth to Share teh Stage at TEDxFargo
In an exciting yet bittersweet declaration, former Van Halen members Alex Van Halen and David Lee Roth are scheduled to make a joint appearance at TEDxFargo this Thursday, July 30. Though, fans hoping for a full-fledged reunion may need to temper their expectations.
This event marks over a decade as van Halen concluded their tour for A Different Kind of Truth, with their last performance taking place at the Hollywood Bowl on October 4, 2015. Tragically, just five years later, the legendary Eddie Van Halen passed away, leaving a meaningful void in the music world.
A Unique Virtual Experience
While the duo will be present as guest speakers, they won’t be sharing the stage in a conventional sense. Rather, they will engage in a “virtual talk” alongside renowned artist Robert Vargas, who is known for his striking mural of Eddie Van Halen on the side of Guitar Center in Hollywood.

“Three icons. One stage. One conversation you won’t want to miss,” reads the official announcement for the event. The discussion will be filmed this week and made available on YouTube for those unable to attend in person.
A Complex Relationship
Given their tumultuous history, the conversation promises to be intriguing. van Halen has previously expressed frustration with roth regarding the unsuccessful Van Halen tribute tour. Yet, he has also acknowledged Roth’s significant contributions, stating, “We did our best work with Dave.”
“To me, Dave was a poet,” Van Halen reflected. “It was the blending of our contrasting styles that created something extraordinary.It was a brilliant mix-until it wasn’t.”
Event Details and Context
The TEDxFargo event will feature over 40 speakers across two days,hosted at the Brewhalla entertainment venue.It’s a surprising setting for a reunion of two musicians who onc dominated the rock scene, alongside the innovative talents of Eddie Van Halen.
This appearance is especially noteworthy for Roth, who recently had to cancel his U.S. tour, during which he reminisced about his songwriting days with Eddie. Fellow musician Sammy Hagar has publicly supported Roth during this challenging time.
In addition to this event,Alex Van Halen and guitarist Steve Lukather are reportedly working on a final Van Halen album,featuring unreleased material recorded by Eddie before his passing. Lukather has expressed his astonishment at the quality of the tracks, although it appears both Roth and Hagar have not been included in this project.
Notably, Paul Rodgers of Bad Company has declined an invitation to participate, while former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony believes the album should not feature a vocalist.
